Phone Systems
PBX (Private Branch Exchange) PBXs, are computerized on-site
telephone systems
Located at commercial and non profit organizations' premises. They
route calls both within an organization and from the outside world
to people within the organization. A PBX is for companies with 100
+ phones or for call centers that need advanced PBX features.
Key Systems: A Key system is an office phone system that assigns
trunks to "line
select" buttons on each telephone. To make an outside call, you
typically choose a free trunk by pushing its button, then dial. Depending
on how the system is programmed and how trunks are assigned, incoming
calls may ring at all -- or several stations. Because calls can be
picked up from several places around the office, key systems have
historically been preferred in small- or medium-sized office situations,
where full-time human or machine attendants are impractical.
Hybrid Systems: A telephone system where outside trunks could,
but do not necessarily
have to appear on all telephones. A combination of a key telephone
system and a PBX telephone system. A Hybrid system can offer many
of the same features of a PBX at a fraction on the cost.
